Each batch of d2w® additive will be accompanied by a Product Data
Sheet for that grade of additive. Manufacturing must not commence until
that Data Sheet is received.
Method Of Addition
The d2w® additiveis based on a high-quality polyolefin carrier-resin, and the product has
been designed and manufactured to ensure ease of dilution and
homogeneous mixing. The product is a free-flowing granule suitable for
addition using automatic dosing systems (gravimetric or volumetric) or
by premixing with the host polymer and direct addition to the process.
For co-extrusion processing the d2w® additive should be split equally between the feed streams supplying each product-layer.
Care should be taken to ensure a homogenous addition of the additive
into the process. Poor additive distribution can lead to erratic
degradation of the final product.
Addition Rate
Each d2w® additive has been formulated for addition to the resin at 1% w/w. ie 1% of additive and 99% of resin. The low addition-rate means that the
additive is generally not invasive to the process and in most cases the
process can be run under the same nominal operating conditions as the
standard product.
d2w® Trial
As part of the
commencement process, all customers will be provided with a trial
sample of the appropriate d2w® grade recommended for their proposed
application. These trials must be performed under the operating
conditions envisaged for manufacture - including temperature, line
speed, output rate etc., and using exactly the same polymer,
masterbatches etc. as will be used in the production runs.
A sufficient quantity of sample will be provided to allow the
manufacturer to run the process under these conditions for a period of
at least 1 hour.
d2w® Testing
Samples of a metre
length of film or twenty items of finished product, and a control
sample of the same quantity of the same product without d2w® additive,
should be sent immediately after completion of the trial run, to
Symphony’s Technical Department for testing. Testing for d2w® finished product normally takes 6~8 weeks from the time UK Lab received the testing samples.
